Abstract
In the present work we pretend to present the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Rosary and Saint Benedict, located in Desterro/Florianópolis, in order to understand their operation structure, the commitment of brothers and sisters, both decisions "in the sphere of temporal and spiritual". Trying to find remnants of the past that enable knowing cultural aspects of these historical subjects, the focus of this article turns to sounds, performances and celebrations produced in this area of African experiences, in particular with regard to the festivities and forms of celebration of death, practices in constant tension with the new intentions of Catholicism from Rome, in the late nineteenth century.
