Abstract
This paper aims to reflect on an experience of teaching African philosophy from a subject offered in a postgraduate course in education at a university in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, attended by students who particularly did not have access to African thinkers in their higher and basic education. In this sense, the course offered an introduction to the main strands of contemporary African thought and the perception of two students about its contribution to their teaching practices and research. It was observed the contribution of the contents divided into three moments, Afrocentricity, the philosophy of ubuntu and sagacity, contributing to the teaching practice and supporting the theoretical references of the students in their research.
