Abstract

This article is the result of our experiences in the discipline African and Afrodiasporic Philosophies studied in a Graduate Program in Education. We aim to present African and Afro-diasporic intellectuals who were excluded from official academic curricula for directly confronting Eurocentrism. We highlight some existing theoretical bases of international and national authors who contributed with new epistemological proposals, focusing on the philosophical thinking of Afrocentricity. We think that highlighting the contribution of Afro-centered intellectuals can be a path to new pedagogies that provide a curricular change in teacher training. Therefore, we understand that Afrocentricity is one of the ways to fight for new epistemes that direct us towards a more equitable education in the near future.
