Abstract

From the analysis of Carolina Maria de Jesus's diaries, we find in her words the fabric of resistance to various forms of intersecting oppression in her daily life. To comprehend Carolina's writing, we believe that the lenses of intersectionality, a critical social theory proposed by Patricia Hill Collins, the studies on whiteness by Cida Bento, Chicana feminism by Gloria Anzaldúa, black feminism by Lelia Gonzalez, the notion of raciality dispositif by Sueli Carneiro, and decolonial feminism by María Lugones, all serve as theoretical contributions that aid us in reading Carolina Maria de Jesus as a critical narrator of Brazilian reality. Her diaries manifest resistance to the historical process of epistemicide that marks colonial societies.
