Abstract

This reflection aims to discuss the contributions of white identity studies to the understanding of race relations in Brazil and its impacts to the subjectivities of all Brazilians. We seek to reflect about the reach of whiteness in social spaces, particularly in higher education in our country. We start from the question: “The low percentage of black professors’ representation in public institutions of higher education in Brazil can be considered from the perspective of whiteness?” to examined the context of the emergence of two higher education institutions established in the twentieth century, the Free School of Sociology and Political Science and the University of São Paulo.
