Abstract

This article aims to understand how the theoretical and methodological field of Social Cartography can contribute to the process of recognition and titling of quilombola territories. For this, an debate was held on the meaning of territory; the political dimension of quilombola territories in Brazil was presented, as well as the theoretical-methodological perspecctive of Social Cartography as a possible path for the participatory process of territory management, with regard to the claim of rights above all and with regard to the process of recognition and land titling of these territories. For this purpose, experiences were used in two quilombola communities that had Social Cartography as support for the claim of their lands: the one that occured at Fazenda’s Quilombo (SP) and in Cachoeira Porteira’s Quilombo, in Oriximiná (PA).
