Abstract

Discussing Human Rights in Brazil may be controversial and challenging because the topic is repudiated by part of society. However, the idea behind it is sometimes mistaken, not rarely narrowing down every discussion to “Human Rights are criminals rights”, “a good criminal is a dead criminal”. The goal of this article is to identify repercussions of structural racism in controversies that permeate the debate regarding human rights and to determine how experiences in a racist society impact our way to view and interpret reality. The main results of the research show that this repudiation is due to manifestation of structural racism. The main results of the research indicate that the rejection by society regarding the defense of human rights in Brazil is linked to manifestations of structural racism where we are daily taught to naturalize racism or to deny its existence in our actions and opinions.
