Abstract
By delving into the intellectual production and political militancy of Lélia Gonzales, this article aims to analyze how her academic theorization and interpretation of Brazilian society both reflects and is, at the same time, influenced by her work in institutional politics. Racism and the centrality of the racial element in Brazilian society structure both Lélia's thought and this article, which uses the bibliographical review of Gonzalez's production as a guideline.
