Abstract

The text presents components of a methodological trajectory, posture and look that gradually unfolded and were discovered during my experience in a rural quilombo in the Jequitinhonha Valley. The result of a three-year empirical-ethnographic research, the subjects' agencies and creative expressiveness - and the way they were methodologically apprehended - led to their comprehension as black self-representation practices in some measure independent of and in tension with representation regimes - according to Stuart Hall - that define the black-quilombola experience as primarily mediated and encompassed by and accommodated syncretically in a world of whites, which, broader, would surpass it. The not normative but representational and practical-effective inversion that is arrived at, displacing a white subject from a world of whites and resituating it in a world of blacks, is operated through a conception of ineffable and living memory and of contested norms of belonging.
