Abstract
ABSTRACT
Inheritance of various aspects of historical and sociological origin, the dependencies of employees in Brazilian housing remained linked to the logic of slavery thinking in the colonial period, which influenced the configurations of these environments over the centuries. Here, we present the transformations that marked the maids' quarters (bedroom and bathroom) from their appearance in single-family homes to contemporary Brazilian apartments. The research was developed through theoretical foundation and analysis of the design of two apartment buildings built in the city of Maceió, capital of the state of Alagoas. It was observed in the analyzed apartments, a series of spatial solutions that carry meanings related to the logic of slavery thinking of the colonial period and that reproduce ideals of the “Casa-grande and Senzala” reinforcing ideals of hierarchy of power in the relations between employers and employees.
