BRAZIL IN THE DECADE OF 30: INTELLECTUAL, NATIONAL PROJECT AND THE "BRAZILIAN RACE"
Main Article Content
Abstract
The participation of intellectuals in the building of the Brazilianness was one of the remarkable characteristics of the entire Vargas period. Political activities of intellectuals concerned with the national question were initiated yet in the nineteenth century. The idea was that the intellectuals, as elite, could promote social development, from their knowledge and observation of truly "superior" cultural manifestations. In this paper, we present the “varguistas” proposals systematized by his ideologues Francisco Campos and Amaral Azevedo, in their works The National State and Getúlio Vargas, statesman. With a methodology that focused on the analysis of secondary sources, we aim to understand the founding characteristics of the National State project, highlighting the proposal of a "Brazilian race".
