BRAZIL AFROATITUDE PROGRAM AS A POLITICAL STRATEGY FOR SOCIO-RACIAL INCLUSION OF BLACK STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study sought to outline the profile and meaning of the Brazil Afroatitude-UnB Program in the view of the students assisted by the program. It was found that the Brazil Afroatitude Program contributed significantly, in financial terms, to the maintenance of students at the university and generated several symbolic gains. The study also showed that Afroatitude-UnB constituted a political space for confronting racism within and outside university’s walls, functioning as a welcoming place for students who entered the university through the quota system. In addition, the program was configured as one of the main promoters of the students’ identity process. One of the program’s greatest merits was the strengthening of black identity. Finally, the survey showed that the main obstacle to the program was its precarious institutionalization.
