Abstract

based on an analysis of intellectual history, the article deals with the African debate on development. For this, in addition to the classic contribution of the African political economy, from the 1960s and 1970s, we considerer on how the human and social sciences, since the 1980s, also intervened in this debate. From this perspective, the hypothesis arises that such an expansion of the debate enabled a more complex view of the idea of development, now understood as self-development.
